The Residential Childcare Level 3 Diploma is designed for learners who want to work in residential care with children in a caring position.
Students can work in residential care homes, residential special schools, therapeutic communities, secure children’s homes, shared care, and short-term settings after completing the course. Learners will gain the information and skills needed to provide a caring, healthy, stimulating, safe, and secure environment for the children and young people in their care through this course.
Qualification Purpose:
This qualification has been developed in response to a review of residential childcare qualifications and provision driven by the Secretary of State for Children and Families. This qualification is part of the new children’s homes regulations which came into force in April 2015.
The Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) is specifically designed for learners wanting to work in residential care with children in a care role.
The Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) (RQF) is based on the units developed by Skills for Care and Development who are the sector skills council for people working in early years, children and young people’s services, and those working in social work and social care for children and adults in the UK.
It replaces the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Social Care Pathway) as the required qualification for those working in children’s homes. All new starts must be registered on the new Residential Childcare qualification from April 2015.
The qualification enables the learner to gain essential skills and knowledge to support children and young people in residential childcare settings, including wellbeing and resilience, positive relationships and attachments, health and safety, sexual exploitation, communication, positive behaviour and positive outcomes. It also offers the learner the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings.
New residential care workers will need to achieve the qualification within two years from employment.
